April Book Awards

April Reading Awards

Welcome to my new monthly series where I discuss the books I read this month. Now I don’t read as much as some people, especially not for running this blog but I still thought I would give this a try.

Each month I will list what I read, and award each book with a special little award that I have created. Seems fun, so why not get into it.

The categories are as follows:

  1. Fantastic Fantasy
A book that is marketed in the fantasy genre that really blew me away. I am more of a contemporary reader so for a book to win this award is a great honor.
  2. Incredible World Building
A book that no matter the genre really pulled me into the book and submersed me into the world.
  3. Character Creations.
A book that has strong character development. For a book to win this award I must really connect with the characters in some way.
  4. Gorgeous Aesthetic.
Sometimes books just have REALLY beautiful covers and pages, and most of the time I am a cover whore and buy them for that reason.
  5. Friendship Goals.
I really love a good ride or die friendship, a friendship where through everything their bond stays strong. Now this doesn’t mean it has to be a no fault friendship – not everyone agrees all the time, but a solid friendship is amazing to read.
  6. Family Support.
Lets be real, the whole absent parents thing is a horrible writing trope.

First book is awarded into multiple categories,

34728667Currently number one best seller in young adult fantasy, Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi.

I awarded this book several awards because I couldn’t just choose one. Once you read this book you will understand why. The awards I choose for this book were Incredible World Building, Fantastic Fantasy and Favorite of the month.

This second book I was awarded an ARC on Netgalley. I did NOT read this first, but as this reads more like a companion novel then a squeal I didn’t find it really hurt me at all.

34236194More Than We Can Tell by Brigid Kemmerer was heartbreaking and so amazing. I immediately fell in love with the characters, wanting to reach through the pages and hug them. For this reason I have choosen to award this book the Friendship Goals award for Rev and Declan’s friendship throughout this entire book.

Also, Family Support. There are way to many books out there that dont have enough family support throughout them. Either the parents are distant and doing their own thing or are just not mentioned, but in this book Rev has an AMAZING family and by the end of the book (no spoilers) Emma has fantastic relationships with her family too.

The third and final book I read this past month was Tyler Johnson Was here by Jay Cole.

35604682This book was seriously hyped up, which in turn made it so I was hyped up.

I loved what this book represented, but I think my hopes were held to high as I was holding it closely to The Hate U Give. But in end, I had to reward this book Character Creations. I fell hard for Marvin as he searched for his brother, but what really turned me off for the whole book was the unnecessary romance. I wanted a hard hitting book that made me think about the world around me but it wasn’t what I got.

All in all, I think I had a really good reading month.

With only 3 days left to go, I highly doubt I will be finishing anything else as I’m not committed to anything.

How did your reading go this month? Would you award any of the books you read with an award and if so which one? Let me know in the comments!
